About Rustic Oaks

The Venue

The Rustic Oaks barn is the heart of many of our special events and gatherings. It's also one of the FM area's most unique options for hosting weddings, a variety of retreats, business gatherings, social events and more!

French doors open to beautiful wood floors, chandeliers, lanterns, and the original vaulted timber of the hayloft.  Our ADA compliant event center is open year-round, complete with heat & AC, a sound system, and lighting options!  Guests and vendors can enjoy our on-site bar, commercial staging kitchen, and elevator!  To the north, the barn opens to a beautiful two-story 4-season porch, complete with fire places, wood flooring, and sky lights!

The Inns

"The Dromsted" {meaning "dream place" in Norwegian} is our venue's guesthouse!  Our on-site lodging options are designed to provide an opportunity so family & friends can gather, relax, be creative, and celebrate. You will love the convenience the Inn offers for you and your guests. You and your guests can wakeup to the sounds of nature and beauty!

"The Homestead" is original to the Rustic Oaks property; this charming and historic inn is primarily used by bridal parties for wedding day and ceremony preparation.

The History

In 1895, Even and Marit Corneliussen established their home on the banks of the Red River, on the site that is now Rustic Oaks.

As newlyweds, and recent immigrants from Norway, they were filled with the hopes and dreams of establishing a new life on the prairies of Minnesota. They built a small home during their first year on the property. This original house (now referred to as "The Homestead") still adjoins the main home and presently houses the kitchen and master bedroom.

By 1908, as their family grew, a larger home became the dream. There was a large stand of white oaks on the property that provided the opportunity for that dream. They harvested over 200 oaks - that when sold, provided the funds to build their new home.  The property was home to two generations of Corneliussens, and then to two generations of Ericksons from 1974 to 2002.

When the Larsons first saw this property, they realized it had the potential to fulfill their lifelong dreams.  After learning the history, the name "Rustic Oaks" originated.  The Larson's hope is that this place can be for you, as it was for the Corneliussen, Erickson and Larson families, a place to remind us of shared dreams and hopes, a place where we can live in congruence with nature, and a place where we can celebrate the connections of families and friends.
